Michele, who plays Rachel Berry on the Fox musical, had been dating Monteith -- her on-screen love interest as well -- for more than a year. The young actress regularly compared the beloved Glee couple to Friends' Ross and Rachel, expressing optimism that the duo would ultimately wind up together.

"You know how television shows are when you think about these characters -- [Friends'] Ross and Rachel, [Felicity's] Ben and Felicity -- they pull them together and pull them apart, it's what makes it exciting but also realistic because they're young and as much as I think that they love each other, this is what happens in young relationships," the actress told The Hollywood Reporterin June 2012, ahead of the recently concluded fourth season of Glee.
