Comedy Central's Futurama is going out with a bang.
The animated series, which is ending its run with its seventh and final season, took a jab at NBC during a recent episode.
In the opening scene from the June 26 episode "T.: The Terrestrial," an alien from the planet Omicron Persei 8 is quite taken by a promo for an upcoming NBC drama -- The Finder Outer -- a procedural about a cop who shockingly doesn't have any special abilities whatsoever. It's an amusing jab at the network that come fall will be home to procedurals Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire and its spinoff, Chicago PD as well as a remake of Ironside. Apparently in the future, NBC is still sticking with its bread-and-butter basics.

The funny bit ends with the biggest dig of all -- when the series, produced for the Viacom-owned Comedy Central by 20th Television -- takes a punch at NBC's recent ratings woes. The network finished in third place for the recently concluded 2012-13 season, a respectable finish thanks largely to double runs of The Voice. Without the singing competition, however, NBC flat lined between cycles, finishing below Univision for the February sweep for the first time ever.
