‘American Idol’ Winner Ruben Studdard to Star on ‘The Biggest Loser’

Ruben Studdard has had a problem keeping weight off, especially after a divorce last year, but now the R&B singer made famous on one reality show is seeking a lasting solution on another.

Starting this fall, the former American Idol champ will compete on the 15th installment of NBC's The Biggest Loser, an NBC spokeswoman confirmed.

Studdard came to be known as the "Velvet Teddy Bear" on his path to winning season two of Idol in 2003. The singer slimmed down considerably after marrying Surata Zuri McCants in 2008 but gained back some weight after they divorced in 2012.

"I've never had an issue with my weight," Studdard previously told Billboard. "[But] my family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart-related issues -- things I didn't have to deal with yet because I'm young. But I don't want to be worried at 40, and if I don't fix things now, I will be."
