Amanda Bynes’ parents have filed to impose a conservatorship over their troubled daughter, whose bizarre behavior in recent months culminated earlier this week in a 5150 psychiatric hold.
A court hearing on the matter is scheduled for Friday.
The actress started a fire in a stranger’s driveway on Monday, after which she was taken into custody and hospitalized.
Under a conservatorship, Bynes’ parents would have legal control over a variety of decisions affecting her life, although the specific nature of the arrangement varies by case.
Britney Spears was famously placed under her father’s conservatorship in the midst of her 2008 public meltdown.
It is difficult to impose a conservatorship in the state of California, but if the judge believes Bynes is not mentally competent to manage her life, her parents could be granted their request.
