Taylor Swift’s “Security Making Public Beach Access A ‘Hassle!’” reads the headline of yet another story from Perez Hilton that was clearly not fact-checked.
According to the blogger, the singer’s new $17 million Watch Hill, Rhode Island mansion “borders a local teen and surfer hang out spot,” and now “her guards are always asking them to leave.”
Perez then quotes a source as saying, “If she wanted privacy, she shouldn’t have bought a house overlooking a public beach!”
Also included in his article is a tweet from a guy named Matt Brown, who wrote, “Hey @taylorswift13 Tell your guards to stop harassing people who have hung out on the beach wall for years.”
Enough.
While kids have hung out on the beach wall for years, it is not part of the public beach.
Gossip Cop is told the wall is, in fact, part of Swift’s private property.
Brown himself has actually acknowledged it: “I called the town hall. She DOES own the wall.”
Perez is also wrong about the area right in front of Swift’s property — it’s not a public beach.
While sun-worshippers have lounged around for years on the beach without being told to leave, we’ve confirmed that the sand above the high water mark is 100 percent Swift’s private property.
And the award-winning singer has every right to have her security clear people away. Just two and a half weeks ago, a man was arrested for trespassing.
