Sophie Giraud for Netflix
"Hemlock Grove"
Netflix is heading back to Hemlock Grove.
The streamer announced Wednesday that it has picked up a second season of the horror-thriller, adding Charles "Chic" Eglee as showrunner and executive producer.
"The worldwide fan response to Hemlock Grove was phenomenal" said ep Eli Roth. "Netflix members loved the potent combination of sexy monsters, mystery, and the dark family soap opera that ended with a huge twist, leaving audiences worldwide totally shocked. Season one was just a warm up for what we have in store for season two."
Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, who wrote the gothic horror novel on which the show is loosely based, originally developed the project to series. Unlike the first 13-episode order, the second season will only include 10 episodes.
“In its first season, Eli, Brian, Lee and the team did an incredible job of introducing viewers to a unique world of memorable characters,” said Cindy Holland, vp of original content at Netflix. “Chic’s addition to the show, and his experience on such fan favorites as The Shield, The Walking Dead and Dexter,” will heighten the intensity of the mystery that grips Hemlock Grove.”
Produced by Gaumont International Television, Hemlock Grove stars Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgård, Landon Liboiron, Freya Tingley, and Dougray Scott.
"We are thrilled to be working with Netflix on the second season of Hemlock Grove, a show that the audience has enthusiastically embraced," said Gaumont ceo Katie O'Connell.
The next batch of Hemlock Grove episodes will bow in 2014.
