Zach Stone is not going to be famous after all.
MTV has opted to cancel Bo Burnham comedy Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous after one season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
"We are huge fans of Bo Burnham and the entire creative and talented team behind Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous. After careful consideration of many factors, we have ultimately decided not to move forward with an additional season of the series. We wish Bo, the cast and the entire production crew the very best," MTV said in a statement to THR.
The 22-year-old Internet phenom, who achieved success in the comedy world after videos of his off-color songs went viral on YouTube, starred as the title character, co-created, exec produced and served as a writer on the series.
Burnham first indicated the show's dim future on Twitter on Tuesday. "The final three episodes of Zach Stone will be airing THIS WEEK. Not sure when, yet. But I will keep you posted," he wrote. "For those asking, MTV airing the final 3 ZS this week, 2 on Saturday, is most certainly a sign that they won't order a second season…"
The series, which launched on Thursdays at 10:30 p.m. in May, was moved to 11 p.m. in June in a bid to expand its dwindling audience. The series launched to 650,000 viewers and has seen its numbers decrease to half that in the weeks since.
The news comes as MTV continues to make changes under new programming president Susanne Daniels. The Viacom-owned cabler on Wednesday also parted ways with Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich.
