Demi Lovato Talks Dad’s Death, Launches Mental Illness Scholarship on GMA (VIDEO)

Demi Lovato opened up about her father Patrick’s death on Thursday’s “Good Morning America,” where she announced the creation of a mental illness scholarship fund in his honor.

The “X Factor” judge admitted that she and her dad “didn’t have the most ideal relationship,” but that she still cared for him, describing Patrick as a “wonderful person.”

The late Lovato battled not just cancer but also psychological issues (much like his daughter), leading Demi to announce that she’s starting the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program in partnership with CAST Recovery.

She plans to cover treatment expenses for individuals — one at a time — who struggle with mental health problems.
