ABC News Names Jonathan Greenberg ‘This Week’ Exec Broadcast Producer

ABC News’ This Week with George Stephanopoulos will get a new executive broadcast producer. Jonathan Greenberg, 29, has been promoted from senior producer. Greenberg began his career at ABC News almost ten years ago as an intern in the political unit where he served as Stephanopoulos’ assistant. He took a brief hiatus from the network to finish his law degree at Stanford. ABC News president Ben Sherwood made the announcement Tuesday. “Jonathan is a familiar face to many at ABC, and especially to the staff at This Week,” wrote Sherwood in an email to ABC News staffers. “Last year he served as a senior producer on the broadcast, helping to re-launch it when George returned as its anchor during a pivotal election year.”

This Week is up double digits among total views and viewers 25-54 so far this season, although the show is in third place in both measures behind Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer on CBS and NBC’s Meet the Press with David Gregory. And ABC News recently launched a new ad campaign to remind viewers that its Good Morning America co-host is also on Sunday mornings. The ads feature Stephanopoulos popping up during peoples’ breakfast routines with the tag line “Sunday mornings mean George.”

Greenberg replaces Sandy Cannold, who joined ABC News from CNBC in September 2012. Cannold last April was named senior business editor at ABC News.

So far this season, Face the Nation is averaging 898,000 viewers in the demo edging out Meet the Press (889,000), while This Week is pulling in 763,000 viewers among viewers 25-54.

And ABC News is not the only network with a Sunday morning executive producer change. Long-time Meet the Press executive producer Betsy Fischer Martin, who has been running that program since 2002, will transition out of her job this summer to focus on broader political coverage at NBC News as managing editor of political programming. NBC News has yet to name a replacement.
