’24’s’ Jon Cassar Signs on for Fox Event Series Revival

Howard Gordon is rounding up all the troops for Fox's 24: Live Another Day.

Jon Cassar, who produced and directed 59 episodes of the flagship series from seasons two to seven, and  including the TV movie 24: Redemption, has boarded the Fox event series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Cassar, who won two Emmys and a DGA Award for his work on the series, will direct the first two installments of the 12-episode event series from Gordon, 20th Television and Imagine TV.

The gig reunites him with Kiefer Sutherland, whom he most recently directed in a 2012 episode of his recently canceled Fox drama Touch.

"I'm very happy to be renewing my relationship with the 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine family and am excited to call 'action!' again on the set of the resurrected 24," Cassar said. "Considering I was not involved in season eight, this new 24 event series gives me the chance for closure on a show that is very important to me."

In addition to Touch, Cassar's recent credits include Continuum, Person of Interest, Revolution, Terra Nova and Fringe, as well as the miniseries The Kennedy, which also earned him a DGA prize.

"Jon was a profoundly integral part of 24 creatively and culturally," Gordon said. "It doesn’t feel like it would be 24 without him, and we’re all just really thrilled to be working with him again.”

Added 20th TV chairman Gary Newman: "Jon Cassar was a critical force in the ongoing evolution of 24. He is a masterful director who has been responsible for many of the best episodes of the series, and Kiefer, Howard and all of us at the studio value him enormously. We are thrilled to have him back."

Fox officially greenlit 24: Live Another Day in May, with Gordon and Sutherland signed on to the limited series that will tell a 24-hour story over 12 episodes. 24: Live Another Day will bow in May 2014.

Cassar is repped by Paradigm and Industry Entertainment.
