Nicki Minaj has come a long way from being a bullied kid growing up in Queens, New York.

But now the successful 30-year-old rapper says she sees striking similarities between the drama of her school days and the rivalries in Hollywood.

“People treat this business like it’s high school. It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can’t be bothered,” Minaj tells Teen Vogue.

She continues, “I can’t allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can’t be nice to someone just because they’re hot right now. I can’t do it.”

The “American Idol” judge — who has feuded all season long with fellow panelist Mariah Carey — acknowledges in the magazine that she’s not liked by everyone, but also steadfastly refuses to care.

“I used to read the bad things people said about me. Then I asked myself, Why am I reading that when I have millions of people saying great things?” says Minaj. ”You cannot give negativity power.”

The full interview in the June/July issue hits newsstands on May 21.
