Disney Junior’s ‘Sofia the First’ Expands to Daily Program (Exclusive)

Sofia the First is expanding to weeknights.

Disney Junior's animated series will become a daily program beginning June 10 as part of the network's multi-platform "Pirate and Princess Summer" event, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

Currently, the series airs new episodes on Fridays with encores during the weekends. With this expansion, Sofia the First -- which centers on Disney's first girl princess -- will begin airing weekdays at 9 a.m. and broadcast on weekends at 8:30 a.m. on Disney Channel.

On Disney Junior, the series will begin airing weeknights at 7 p.m. as well as weekends at 5:30 p.m.

New episodes of Sofia the First will continue to premiere on Fridays, alternating with Jake and the Never Land Pirates, from June 14 to Aug. 23 on Disney Channel at 9 a.m. and Disney Junior at 5 p.m. (A new Sofia the First will air at 9:30 a.m. on June 14 following a new episode of Jake and the Never Land Pirates as a kick-off.)

Guest voice stars include Viola Davis and Megan Mullally on Sofia the First, which will also welcome Disney princess Jasmine to be voiced by Linda Larkin and sung by Lea Salonga. THR debuts an exclusive image featuring Sofia and Jasmine, which airs June 14.

Jerry O'Connell will drop by Jake and the Never Land Pirates, which also welcomes back Jane Kaczmarek and Teri Hatcher.

This summer, Sofia the First will debut its own product line, including apparel, home decor and toys to launch at U.S. retailers. An expanded product line for Jake and the Never Land Pirates will also launch.
