Discovery Channel Sets Series About Family-Owned Oil Company

Discovery Channel aims to give viewers an inside look at a family-owned oil company and their struggles in its new series Blood and Oil.

The network has scheduled a premiere date of 10 p.m. ET/PT on Tuesday, June 18, for the show, which was previously announced under the working title Cutter Oil.

The series centers on the Cutters, a blue-collar, Midwestern family determined to keep their oil company alive amid Ohio's aggressive oil boom and what is being described as a "David vs. Goliath" struggle with the big oil corporations.

Founded by Charles "Chuck" and Beth Cutter, Cutter Oil consists of their sons CJ, Josh and Shawn, daughter Kristin and her husband, Ray Anthony. The formerly thriving company was hit hard by the recent and untimely death of patriarch Chuck, which happened amid an oil boom in Ohio.

After discovering that big oil corporations have snatched up drilling rights all over their state, the Cutters are faced with limited options for drilling territory. Determined to keep the family business alive and uphold his father’s legacy, CJ is forced to make a risky and controversial decision to wildcat drill on their own property.

Blood and Oil is produced for Discovery Channel by PSG Motion Pictures. Brian Jones is executive producer for PSG, and David Pritikin is EP for Discovery.

The show was first announced last month as part of Discovery's 2013-14 slate along with another oil-themed series titled Backyard Oil.
