The American Idol season 12 finale is shaping up to be an all-star alumni extravaganza, as Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, a finalist from season three, and season eight runner-up Adam Lambert have both been approached to perform, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Neither has committed to the May 16 event yet.
As E! had previously reported, former Idol judge Jennifer Lopez will also appear on the show, an insider confirms to THR, but no word yet on another diva: Cher, whom season 12 finalist Lazaro Arbos is hoping will sing a duet with him.

The two-night girl versus girl finale will be broadcast live on May 15 and 16 from Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre. In previous years, finalists have performed duets with seasoned stars, along with group numbers and the occasional comedy skit.
Hudson is returning to the silver screen this November with the film Black Nativity, starring Angela Basset and Forest Whitaker. As Weight Watchers spokeswoman, the Chicago native was recently honored with the brand's Leader of the Year award.

Lambert's most recent album, Trespassing, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2012. He recently teamed up with AT&T for its “Live Proud” campaign, where the company will contribute a minimum of $25,000 and up to $50,000 to The Trevor Project, the national leader in crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ youth.
More announcements, including the year's country music finale offerings, are expected in the coming days.
