Robert Downey Jr. Tells GQ: I’m “One of the Best Actors” of My Day, Will Win Oscar

(GQ)

Robert Downey, Jr. is “one of the best actors” of his generation, according to the star himself.

But that’s not all.

Downey is also 100 percent sure there’s an Oscar in his future.

In a new cover story with GQ for its May issue, Downey calls himself one of our “best actors,” but notes, “It’s not like this is the greatest swath or generation of actors that has ever come down the pike.”

He also says winning an Academy Award is “going to happen,” adding, “That’s just a fact. I, personally, would be shocked if we went to the end of the tape now and I didn’t have at least one… Because it just doesn’t make sense.”

And if for some mind-boggling reason he doesn’t win an Oscar for a particular film role, he says, “Even if I don’t get one directly, eventually they’re just going to have to give me one when I get old. So no matter how you slice it, I’m getting one.”

Of his star turn in the Ironman movies, Downey tells the magazine, “It so came out of kind of relative obscurity as this second-tier character from the Marvel universe, and I feel I was part of making it something more. But it also to me was just good filmmaking.”
