It’s official: ABC News has tapped Byron Pitts, formerly of CBS News, as anchor and chief national correspondent based in New York. Pitts, who was a 60 Minutes correspondent, will play a significant role on ABC’s Friday newsmagazine 20/20.
In making the announcement Monday morning, ABC News president Ben Sherwood praised Pitts as an "accomplished reporter and brilliant storyteller."
"Byron has a unique talent for stories about people and communities facing the longest odds," wrote Sherwood in an email to ABC News staffers.
Pitts will appear across ABC News broadcasts and platforms. He begins his new gig later this month.
Sherwood also announced the addition of Morgan Hertzan as vice president of non-fiction content development. Hertzan co-founded LX.TV, a lifestyle production company which, among other things, produced short-form content appearing in New York City taxi cabs. The company was acquired by NBC in 2008 and Hertzen exited in 2011. Hertzen will be tasked with expanding ABC News content across cable and digital platforms. He reports to James Goldston, senior vp of content and development.
