"Vanilla Ice Goes Amish"
DIY Network is doubling down on Vanilla Ice.
The home improvement cable network, which announced its latest programming slate with sister HGTV on Tuesday, has ordered Vanilla Ice Goes Amish to series.
A new spin on the rapper's three-seasons-old house flipping series The Vanilla Ice Project, the new show sends the '90s pop culture icon to Amish Country to learn crafting from the famous woodworkers. It will premiere later in 2013.
“The universal appeal of home has resulted in the strong ratings success of programs like HGTV’s Property Brothers and DIY Network’s The Vanilla Ice Project,” said Sripps Networks Interactive president of the home category, Burton Jablin. “Our new series showcase star talent and help viewers create their most personal place by turning their ‘house’ into a ‘home.’ New celebrity driven vehicles and ‘hybrid hour’ programs highlight the three things our viewers love the most -- real estate, renovate and decorate. In addition, we offer options for viewers who prefer voyeuristic programs with a fantasy lifestyle spin.”
Ice is not the only one getting a new series. The announcement also included projects from Run D.M.C. member and reality TV veteran Joseph "Reverend Run" Simmons, Hall & Oates singer-songwriter Daryl Hall and Perfect Strangers star Bronson Pinchot.
The Rev. Run Project follows the mogul as he renovates his 9,000-square-foot home, while the similar Daryl Hall Project will show Hall engaging in his renovations pass time while redoing a 1700s Connecticut Home. The previously announced Bronson Pinchot Saves America finds the titular star scavenging his way through the states to salvage artifacts from demolition.
HGTV is extending several of its most-successful properties with a new spinoffs for Property Brothers Jonathan and Drew Scott (Brother vs. Brother) and Kitchen Cousins Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri (Undercover Overhaul). The network will also launch Renovation Raiders, in which a contractor attempts to stealthily renovate while homeowners are out to dinner, and series Power Broker, Renovation Unscripted and Staged to Perfection.
