DirecTV Orders Series from Writer Neil LaBute

DirecTV has ordered ten episodes of Neil LaBute’s Full Circle, a modern take on La Ronde about 11 characters whom, unbeknownst to them, are all connected to one another.

The series marks LaBute’s first TV project and the satellite providers second original series after Rogue; both series are from executive producer Nick Hamm for Momentum TV, the scripted division of Momentum Entertainment Group.

Casting is underway with production on the ten-episode order scheduled for this summer in Los Angeles. DirecTV will make the series available this fall to its 35 million subscribers.

“Neil has written a piece of revolutionary television,” said Hamm in a statement. “I am honored and privileged to be able to bring it to the screen with such a forward-thinking and adventurous network as DirecTV.”

LaBute’s film and theater projects, including In the Company of Men, The Shape of Things, reasons to be pretty and Fat Pig ,have engendered strong reactions from audiences and critics. And a LaBute TV project is likely to do the same, which is good for DirecTV as it attempts to make a splash in the original content space.

“I am always interested in pushing the boundaries of entertainment and I'm very lucky to find kindred spirits in both Nick Hamm at Momentum and the folks at DirecTV,” added LaBute. “They have all taken a chance on Full Circle which features an unconventional structure and a revolving cast of characters. It’s a pleasure to work with people who believe that it's still possible to marry artistic quality with audience appeal. I'm really excited to create some quality television with these forward-thinking colleagues of mine.”
