Game of Thrones is readying another musical foray. After two seasons of moody score, and a collaboration with The National, the HBO series has partnered with The Hold Steady for another single taken right out of the source material.

The Brooklyn band is set to release a limited edition 7" in honor of Record Store Day 2013 (April, and it includes a recording of "The Bear and The Maiden Fair" from George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels.
Game of Thrones co-creators and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss approached the band about setting the tune to music, and will use it in an upcoming episodes.
“As with The National, we went after one of our favorite bands and were happily surprised when they agreed to do it,” Benioff and Weiss said in a statement. “This is one of the most popular songs in Westeros, beloved by nobles and commoners alike, sung at taverns and feasts and etc. We wanted our rendition to be bawdy and a little sloppy -- drunken musicians getting up on the table and jamming while the rowdy party continues around them. There was no one better for the job than the Hold Steady, and the song they delivered has been stuck in our heads for the last four weeks.”

Those who've read Martin's novels are familiar with the frequently used tune -- and the particularity nerdy might have even heard one of the several covers of it on YouTube.
Game of Thrones previously released "The Rains of Castamere," another song including lyrics from the book series, with The National.
