‘Pitch Perfect’s’ Skylar Astin to Star in TBS’ Bill Lawrence Comedy Pilot

Aca-mazing.

Pitch Perfect breakout Skylar Astin is near a deal to star in TBS' Ground Floor, the comedy pilot from Bill Lawrence and Greg Malins, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Additionally, Cougar Town alum Briga Heelan has been tapped to co-star in the workplace comedy set in the modern world of corporate America.

Ground Floor centers on a 29-year-old successful alpha male who crosses paths with his company's support staff -- a tight-knit group of happy and carefree people, prompting him to realize that he's not nearly as happy as he thought he was.

Astin will play Brody Moyer, the charming manager who's a master-of-the-universe in training who works for a top company who begins falling for building supervisor Jennifer (Heelan). For her part, Heelan's Jennifer is described as sweet, confident and intelligent, even though she never went to college. After a fling with Brody, she sees what a genuinely nice guy he is and makes it her mission to teach him how to loosen up and enjoy life.

From Warner Horizon Television, Lawrence and Malins will pen the script for the multicamera comedy and executive produce alongside Doozer's Jeff Ingold and Randall Winston. Gail Mancuso will direct the pilot, which also stars Scrubs alum John C. McGinley.

In addition to his starring turn as Jesse in musical comedy feature Pitch Perfect, Astin's credits include 21 and Over, a voice role in Wreck-It Ralph and episodes of Girls, Love Bites and a starring role in the Tony-nominated Broadway performance of Spring Awakening with Glee's Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff. He's repped by UTA, Principal Entertainment and Felker Toczek.

Heelan, who recurred as Holly for a handful of episodes on Cougar Town, also counts Jane By Design and an episode of Happy Endings among her credits. She's with Gersh and Thruline Entertainment.
