OK! Declares Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s “Marriage In Crisis”

Truth rating: 0

(OK!)

It was predictable that a magazine like OK! would try to tear down Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner after the couple’s happy Oscars night.

After all, the same tabloid failed miserably with a story linking Affleck to Rihanna, as well as a bizarre report wrongly claiming he was going to reunite with Jennifer Lopez.

Now the magazine is running a cover story that declares Affleck and Garner’s marriage is in “crisis.”

A so-called “insider” tells OK! that the “stress of awards season” and Affleck’s time away from home “has the exhausted couple headed for trouble.”

Um, what kind of “trouble”?

A second OK! source offers, “Jennifer is extremely accommodating, but when she feels too pushed, she speaks up for herself. It’s rare, but when she speaks up, if she’s not heard, guess who’s sleeping in the guest room?”

We’re not quite sure what the magazine is babbling about, but so far, the “crisis” cover story seems to boil down to: On “rare” occasions, Affleck and Garner fight, and it’s not a big deal.

Ah, but then the tabloid gets to what passes as the core of its harrowing account, describing the relationship’s “major stress test” at an awards show in London on February 10.

“During the BAFTAs, the British film and television awards, there were tensions between them the whole night,” relays the OK! insider. “They were hardly talking to each other, and when they did, it was through clenched teeth.”

What was the alleged problem?

According to the mag, Garner was supposedly “annoyed” with Affleck for “spending so much time with industry insiders promoting his work. And Ben got frustrated, too, wondering why Jen does not realize that it’s a necessary evil in the film business.”

Of course, the purported fight led to… nothing at all.

The couple was perfectly happy throughout the ensuing weeks of Argo’s awards season, leading up to the Oscars, where Affleck’s emotional acceptance speech highlighted his long and successful marriage to Garner.

Except OK! was not satisfied with it.

The magazine somehow turns Affleck’s comment against him when he noted that his life with Garner was “the best kind of work, and there’s no one I’d rather work with.”

“Some thought a simple ‘I love you, honey’ might have played better,” says OK!, quoting an “insider” as saying that Garner thought Affleck’s speech was “letting everyone in on their dirty laundry.”

Huh?

Where does OK! come up with this?

Affleck and Garner were clearly on cloud nine before, during, and after the Academy Awards, and absolutely no one other than OK! thought Affleck’s words somehow reflect martial problems.

Even though the entire story is totally ludicrous, Gossip Cop still checked with a source close to the couple, who labeled the mag’s report “silly” and “made up.”
