MTV Sets ‘Awkward’ Premiere Date, Bows Season 3 Trailer (Video)

MTV's Awkward is returning to Tuesdays for its supersized third season.

The critical darling created by Lauren Iungerich will return to its Tuesdays at 10 p.m. slot starting April 16 with back-to-back episodes, the network announced Monday. The following week, MTV will launch MTV2's Guy Code spinoff Girl Code in the 10:30 p.m. slot.

The 20-episode season -- nearly double the count from seasons one and two -- will also be split in half this season, with a return date for the back half yet to be announced. Additionally, original Awkward webisodes will bow prior to the Ashley Rickards, Beau Mirchoff and Brett Davern starrer's third-season bow and feature a story line linked to an on-air arc with subsequent installments available throughout the comedy's run.

Season one of the comedy about a teenager grappling with life and love aired Tuesdays at 11 p.m. before moving to Thursdays at 10 p.m. last year where it ranked as the night's No. 1 cable series among viewers 12-34 with a 1.9 ratings and 1.9 million total viewers.

Season three features Jenna (Rickards), now a junior, feeling left behind as her friends blossom socially as she seems to be living her life through her relationship with Matty (Mirchoff) and questioning if there's more beyond her love life and the walls of Palos Hills High. Anthony Michael Hall and Glee's Nolan Funk join the cast as series regulars.

"Season three is about who do I want to be and it's a question of not who you are but where you want to go as a person and junior year helps you figure that out. It's the Thursday night of high school, that's what junior year is," Iungerich said in September following the second-season finale.
