Seth MacFarlane opened the 2013 Oscars with monologue jokes and a long routine featuring, of all people, Captain Kirk.
The first-time host began with more traditional jokes poking fun at himself, Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Brown and Rihanna, Mel Gibson, and other celebs.
Then a monitor featuring William Shatner as “Kirk” appeared, with the futuristic Star Trek character warning MacFarlane that his hosting job received poor reviews — and giving him advice on how to save the show.
What followed included a musical number called “We Saw Your Boobs,” a sock-puppet reenactment of the movie Flight, Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum dancing together. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Daniel Radcliffe singing together, and MacFarlane hitting on Sally Field backstage.
It was definitely not your traditional Oscars opening.
