"I wanted to sway a few last-minute Oscar voters," he explained to David Letterman of his costume. "I'll be honest."

"I mean really, can Daniel Day-Lewis do this?" the Australian actor, 44, asked before singing the Gettysburg Address. "Four score and seven years ago," he belted out in his deep voice.

"Can he do that? I don't know why I didn't get cast," Jackman said. "Really, I have no idea."

Jackman is also up against Silver Linings Playbook's Bradley Cooper, The Master's Joaquin Phoenix and Flight's Denzel Washington in the Best Actor category. Day-Lewis, however, has already won SAG, Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for his role portraying President Abraham Lincoln.
