‘Glee’s’ Mike O’Malley to Star in NBC Comedy ‘Welcome to the Family’

Mike O'Malley has found a new family.

The actor perhaps best known for his role as Kurt's (Chris Colfer) father of the year Burt on Fox's Glee, has been tapped to star in NBC's Welcome to the Family, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The single-camera comedy focuses on the colliding world sbetween a white family and a Latino family who are bonded together by their children who fall in love -- and have unplanned pregnancy. 

O'Malley will play Dan Yoder, an orthodontist in his early 40s who is affable and charming but easily frustrated with the cards life deals him. He's not known for rolling with the punches and lets little things get to him and isn't well-equipped to handle his 18-year-old daughter Molly's unplanned pregnancy. He's further described as being a loving husband and father who is newly energized by the prospect of starting the next chapter in life after Molly leaves the nest.

Rules of Engagement's Mike Sikowitz will pen the Sony Pictures Television pilot and executive produce.

O'Malley, also a writer-producer on Showtime's Shameless was a sought-after commodity this pilot season who received multiple comedy offers. On Glee, his character Burt recently revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer.

O'Malley, whose credits also include Yes, Dear, is repped by CAA, Kritzer Levine and Lichter Grossman.
