"The Vampire Diaries"
[Warning: Spoilers from Thursday's "A View to a Kill."]
When you have an Original hot on your tail, it's best to be prepared.
On the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries, "A View to a Kill," Elena's (Nina Dobrev) plan to kill Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) became Mission No. 1 in order for those around her to be spared. If all goes well, Jeremy's (Steven R. McQueen) hunter's mark would grow exponentially, since everyone in Kol's line would be dead as a result. Will she and her motley crew succeed?
STORY: 'Vampire Diaries': Ian Somerhalder on Elena's Bond, the Cure and Missing Season 1 Damon
THR highlights the episode's top moments, including Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Rebekah's (Claire Holt) (sort of) normal high-school outing, Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) villainous advice and what made Klaus (Joseph Morgan) turn it up a notch:
8:05 p.m.: Bonnie's dad dropping vervain into the water supply will play a key role later on in the episode, but at this point in time, it's Elena who accidentally injures herself, which puts everyone on high alert. Bonnie's powers are becoming more and more uncontrollable. Damon, still locked up in the Salvatore cell, and Stefan aren't talking quite yet.
8:15 p.m.: After the scene between Klaus, Stefan and Damon, which THR debuted exclusively Wednesday, Stefan goes about his business trying to get the dagger from Rebekah. The episode was filled with memorable zingers, beginning with this: "You think I'll sleep with you to get the dagger?" Stefan asks Rebekah.

8:17 p.m.: A few moments later, Damon brings up the idea to Klaus that he killed Carol Lockwood and is afraid Caroline won't be able to forgive. Here's an interesting piece of observation/advice from Damon to Klaus on how to be a damn good villain: "You do bad things for no reason," he tells him. "You do it to be a dick. You want to be bad? Be bad with a purpose." (See 8:54 p.m.)
8:22 p.m.: Bonnie's mom Ruby (Persia White) returns to Mystic Falls to help quell Bonnie's (Kat Graham) rapidly dangerous magical powers and teenage-y tantrums. Is this what a typical Bennett household conversation is like? If so, it doesn't seem very pleasant.
8:30 p.m.: Rebekah and Stefan, an interesting couple, go to the high school for the now-canceled decades dance, and they act like a semi-normal couple, discussing things like corny songs. Rebekah, who pretends not to care about anything substantial, gets called out on her B.S. by Stefan. "As much as we care to admit it, we care about those things," he says at one point, before giving her a corsage. ("They were all the rage in the '80s!" Stefan justifies to Rebekah.)
8:32 p.m.: Elena's grand plan to kill Kol hits a speed-bump when Kol denies her proposed truce. Too bad, since they already invited him into the house. He begins to wreak major havoc in a desperate/frantic search for Jeremy and Elena.
STORY: 'Vampire Diaries' Taking Advantage of Social Media Buzz
8:37 p.m.: Klaus starts to feed on Damon's insecurities (Damon isn't 100 percent behind the cure since he doesn't see the benefit), telling him that there is no fairytale ending with him and Elena. "All I see is Stefan and Elena," he says. "I think you see the same thing."
8:47 p.m.: Meanwhile, at the "dance," Stefan and Rebekah continue to act like normal high-schoolers before Rebekah surrenders the dagger that Stefan, who had to be playing her to a certain extent (see: his texts to Matt informing him of the dagger's location), has been looking for.
8:50 p.m.: There comes a moment when Kol is thisclose to chopping off Jeremy's arm, but Elena -- who was daggered -- saves him just in the nick of time. Jeremy uses the vervain water to spray Kol before he stakes Kol. Bye bye, Kol. Klaus sees this all happening outside the house. Is he pissed? Damn right, because he wanted Kol to suffer the way he saw fit.
8:54 p.m.: "I'm going to burn this house down!" Klaus growls angrily. Remember when Damon said Klaus should have a reason to be evil? Count this as a good motive to wreak havoc on everyone and anyone. "I will haunt all of you to your end! Do you hear me?! Do you?!" after he's invited inside. Thinking ahead gets Klaus stuck inside (for three days) and everyone else leaves.
8:56 p.m.: It took an episode longer, but Damon and Elena finally have that meeting they wanted.
8:58 p.m.: Damon and Stefan continue with their verbal feud before Damon punches Stefan when his brother digs a little too deep. Before they can get into it even more, Jeremy's mark begins to grow substantially. As Damon says, "Here we go."
