TV Ratings: Golden Globes Climb to 19.7 Million Viewers, Jump 28 Percent in Key Demo

The Golden Globes got a big boost on NBC. Time-zone adjustments to Nielsen's fast national returns give Sunday night's awards show 16.7 million viewers, up 17 percent (2.8 million) from last year's haul.

That's a six-year high for the telecast, and the show fared just as well among adults 18-49. The Golden Globes earned a 6.4 rating among adults in the demo, a 28 percent jump over last year. Final ratings for last year's 69th annual Golden Globes gave the show 16.9 million viewers and a 5.0 rating among adults 18-49.

As for the red carpet coverage, the one-hour preshow pulled a 4.8 rating with metered-market households, a 26 percent jump from 2012.

Elsewhere, CBS started the night with overrun of the AFC playoff game between the New England Patriots and Houston Texans (10.8 adults rating), which delayed the start of its primetime lineup by 67 minutes. Figures are subject to change, but 60 Minutes (3.7 adults) and The Good Wife (1.9) were up, with The Mentalist (2.0) off a tenth from the previous week. The network averaged a 4.6 adults rating and 16.8 million viewers.

Fox's animation block was predictably down without a NFL lead-in, averaging a 2.1 adults rating and 4.2 million viewers. After an encore of Bob's Burgers, The Cleveland Show (1.4 adults) returned even with its previous original. The Simpsons (2.4) was down 43 percent, with a new Bob's Burgers (2.3) down 26 percent. Family Guy (3.1) and American Dad (2.4) both were down 14 percent.

America's Funniest Home Videos (1.4 adults), which didn't air last week, was flat with its previous original on ABC. Once Upon a Time (2.8) was down 10 percent, with Revenge (2.0) dropping 17 percent to tie a series low. The special broadcast of Happy Endings (1.0) was even with last week's Sunday outing, while Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23 (0.8) dropped a tenth of a point to a series low. ABC averaged a 1.8 in adults 18-49 and 5.6 million viewers.

Univision had a 0.8 adults rating and 2.4 million viewers.
