In the winter premiere of Pretty Little Liars, the villainous Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish) returns to Rosewood after an extended stint in a psychiatric ward.

Given that Mona belongs to the treacherous A-Team, Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) and Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario) are understandably wary of her presence. To their surprises, besties Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson) and Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) are more forgiving.

"I'm thinking maybe we all should be her friend," Emily says just before class begins. "I mean, if Mona knows why Garrett died right after he told that story about Aria's dad . . ."
Spencer cuts Emily off, not wanting to discuss Byron Montgomery's alleged ties to Alison DiLaurentis' murder. Feeling betrayed and confused, Aria ventures into school solo before bumping into Mona.
"Hello, Aria," Mona says, batting her lashes. Staring her down, Aria refuses to say a word.
