Lena Dunham is fresh off two Golden Globe wins and just two episodes deep into the second season of Girls, but that doesn't mean she hasn't started thinking about the way she's going to end her hit HBO comedy.
The 26-year-old writer-actress-director wunderkind appeared on Alec Baldwin's Here's the Thing podcast on Monday, and said that while HBO has her under contract for six years as a writer, she doesn't want the show to overstay its welcome; Dunham cited British shows, which are often just a few seasons long. As she plots out the series' future and the characters' development arcs, she has an eye towards resolving the existential troubles of the modern twenty-something.

"The ideal finale to the show would be a feeling like they don’t have to have kids, they don’t have to have husbands, but you look at them and you kind of go, 'They’re on their way; they’re more okay than they were when they started,'" she told Baldwin. "Or they’re less okay, but we have an understanding of what kind of adult we think they’re gonna be."
Dunham has thought extensively about female role models, both her own and how she has become one. As such, she says she has found herself disappointed in Rihanna, of whom she used to be a major fan.
"I don’t want to ever throw stones from my glass house, but I follow her on Instagram and I just think about how many little girls beyond what I could even comprehend are obsessed with Rihanna," she said "And then she gets back together with Chris Brown and posts a million pictures of them smoking marijuana together on a bed. And it cracks my heart in half in a way that makes me feel like I’m 95 years old."
Also, Baldwin suggested that now that 30 Rock has ended production, he could guest star on Girls. Dunham eagerly agreed; whether they were simply bantering remains to be seen.
