41 Years Of Awesome Parents

A tribute to my favorite part of gay pride that always makes me cry: when the parents from PFLAG march with their kids. Thank you, Jeanne Manford !

41 years ago, a schoolteacher named Jeanne Manford started a movement when she walked with her son in the New York City's Christopher Street Parade. After the parade, a bunch of people came up to Jeanne asking her to talk to their parents. So, Jeanne started a support group and thus PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) was born. Today, there are over 350 chapters and 200,000 members worldwide.

Unfortunately, Jeanne passed away today at the age of 92.

This is a picture of Jeanne holding a picture of her gay son.

One of the most powerful things PFLAG does is march in gay pride parades. It's always so inspiring to see parents and friends supporting their gay friends and family. In honor of Jeanne, lets take a look back at the past 41 years of awesome parents.
