Larry David was among the stars who attended a taping of a Hurricane Sandy benefit earlier this week, and The Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive look at what happened when the Curb Your Enthusiasm star took the stage.
David revealed his mother wanted him to become a postman when he was younger, and joked she told him he “wasn’t special” enough to achieve his boyhood dream of being a sportscaster.
“She wanted me to work in the post office. She begged me to take a civil service test,” David told Joy Behar, who headlined the show. “I don’t think I would have made a good postman. … I could have put up with the rain and the snow. The hail — forget it.”

David also recalled working as a bra salesman before he made it big in comedy.
“The first day, the boss gave me a paper bag filled with bras and told me to take them home and study them,” David told Behar. “Jobs of any kind make me cry, literally."
David’s comments came during “Joy Behar’s Comics With Benefits,” which took place Monday and also featured Colin Quinn, Wendy Williams and Mario Cantone.
During the benefit, Saturday Night Live alum Darrell Hammond impersonated his favorite U.S. political figure, Al Sharpton, imagining what it’d be like of the civil rights activist interrupted a presidential debate with a parable about blueberry pie.

The benefit was filmed at New York’s 92nd Street Y. Current TV is broadcasting the event Friday at 9 p.m. ET. The cable network and the 92nd Street Y are donating proceeds from the benefit to relief efforts in the tri-state area. A $10 donation can be made by texting SANDY to 80108.
