Help Return These Photos Lost In Sandy To Their Owners

A Facebook group is helping residents of a New Jersey town hit hard by Hurricane Sandy recover their family photographs lost in the storm.

Jeannette Van Houten lost her home, care and possessions in Hurricane Sandy. Now she's helping her neighbors of Union Beach, NJ to find the one thing that's irreplaceable - their family photos. Along with a group of volunteers, Van Houten scours the beach for photos washed up from the storm, then cleans, scans then, and uploads them to a Facebook group in hopes that residents will recognize their photos and claim them.

Mary Danielson, a professional genealogist who is helping Jeannette lead the group tells The Verge that they've collected over 10,000 photos so far, and expect to collect at least 20,000. Already, many of the photos they've posted have been claimed.

Here are some of the photos they've uploaded to their Facebook group, hoping to find owners.
