‘The Voice’ Recap: Top 8 Perform, 50 Cent Takes the Stage

50 Cent Adam Levine The Voice - H 2012

NBC

On Monday’s episode of The Voice, the remaining eight contestants performed live for America. Christina Aguilera is holding on with just one contestant – the handsome Dez Duron – left on her team. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton each have two team members and Cee Lo Green has three contestants remaining.

The show kicks off with rapper 50 Cent doing a performance with Levine. While 50 Cent may seem like a random guest for The Voice, we’re glad they are bringing in all different genres of music to the show... we guess. They perform “My Life” together.

If any coach were to "win" this week’s show, it would be Levine, who probably melted a whole lot of lady hearts with his offer to beat up one of his contestant’s exes. But we’ll get to that later.

Team Adam

Amanda Brown sings an Adele song,  “Someone Like You,” but with a bit of a rocker twist. While Aguilera is lukewarm in her praise, Levine says that the judges are just extra hard on Brown, and adds that she “knocked it out of the park.”

Little Melanie Martinez is going through a breakup, so she keeps it close to home with "Too Close.” This results in Levine turning into a protective big brother, and offering to beat up the guy. It’s a great performance, and the coaches seems to really love it, too.

Cody Belew sings “Somebody to Love," but he’s sort of overtaken by the spectacle of his performance. “I love our partnership,” says Green. “We are making quantum leaps.” Hopefully, Belew can find a better balance between theatricality and vocals – if he gets another chance.

Trevin Hunte takes a risk with Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All.” Hunte soars with this one, and Green says, “I’m certain that Miss Whitney would be proud."

Nicholas David, who is expecting his third child, is singing "What's Going On,” which should be a perfect fit for his soulful voice. After Green surprises David with a visit from Bill Withers, whose song “Lean on Me,” David covered last week. "I'm going to be a fan of yours forever,” says Levine after the performance.

Team Christina

Dez Duron has a lot of pressure on him, being Aguilera’s final contestant. He’s catering to the ladies by singing "U Smile." After the performance, Levine praises his star quality, and Aguilera begs America to keep him in the competition.

Team Blake

Shelton lends out one of his own songs, “Over,” to rocker Terry McDermott. "His voice was meant to sing this song,” Shelton says. He shows off his versatility with this song, and the coaches really like it, with Shelton giving him a standing ovation.

Cassadee Pope, who was sitting pretty at the top of iTunes last week, sings "Are You Happy Now." She’s great, but it’s not a push forward like her performance last week. Green admits that she could win the whole competition, while Shelton says she showed off her vocal talents this week.
