Reelz Channel Developing ‘Kennedys’ Follow-Up Miniseries

Reelz Channel is going back to the Kennedys.

The cable network is developing a follow-up miniseries to 2011's Emmy-nominated limited series The Kennedys, the network announced Thursday.

Reelz will team with Kennedys producer Muse Entertainment Enterprises for After Camelot, based on the book of the same name by J. Randy Taraborrelli.

The co-production, which marks Reelz's third effort with the shingle following Kennedys and Bomb Girls, will explore the central theme in the best-seller, which provides a personal history of the Kennedy family from 1968 to the present.

Muse will handle production and international distribution. Keri Selig of Intuition Productions brought the project to Reelz and will exec produce.

After Camelot comes after Kennedys picked up 10 Emmy nominations, taking home wins for lead actor Barry Pepper, among others. The miniseries recorded a record 1.9 million total viewers in April 2011 after landing at Reelz when the History Channel scrapped the effort.

After Camelot becomes the latest of Taraborrelli's 13 New York Times best-sellers to receive the Hollywood treatment. His Jackie, Ethel, Joan -- Women of Camelot entry was developed into a miniseries at NBC starring Jill Hennessey as Jackie Kennedy and Lauren Holly as Ethel Kennedy.

Reelz will re-air the mini over Thanksgiving, setting a marathon of the eight-hour drama for Nov. 22.
