One lucky eliminated “X Factor” contestant was invited to re-join the competition on Tuesday — and it was Diamond White!
Explained Simon Cowell at the start of the show, “We think we’ve made a mistake with one particular act… We’ve invited them to join the finals.”
White was sent home last week by mentor Britney Spears, who chose to keep Arin Ray on her team instead.
The 13-year-old’s return turned the Top 12 into a Top 13, with White performing Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” later in the episode.
L.A. Reid noted that the track was “an ambitious song choice,” but told White, “You know you brought it home, girl.”
Demi Lovato admitted she was “trying really hard not to cry,” and said that the “phenomenal” performance “just tugged at my heart.”
Cowell was especially effusive, saying, “This just proves dreams can come true.”
“You come back fighting, gutsy, great vocal, great song, great performance,” he said, “I’m so glad you’re back in the competition.”
Added Spears, “I feel like you definitely channeled Whitney in that performance and she would be proud.”
