Gene Shalit, the longtime film critic for the “Today Show,” was involved in a single-car accident on Wednesday, with his vehicle striking a utility pole and ultimately coming to rest against a home in Lenox, Massachusetts.

The 86-year-old Shalit told police on the scene that he fell asleep at the wheel.

He now faces a charge of driving to endanger.

Shalit was not injured in the collision.

He’s received a summons to appear before a clerk magistrate at a future date.

Shalit, who lives in nearby Stockbridge, served as the “Today Show” movie reviewer from 1973 until 2010.
