Mitt Romney may have skipped his scheduled appearance on The View, but his wife, Ann Romney, still had a lively chat with the hosts of the daytime talk show.

In what may have been the most contentious exchange in the interview, host Whoopi Goldberg questioned how Romney would deal with speaking with military families, because, she said, "I believe that your religion doesn’t allow you to go fight."
Ann replied, "No, that's not correct. We have many, many members of our faith that are serving in armed services."
The View host pressed the subject, saying that she read that Romney didn't fight in the Vietnam War because of his faith. She was again rebuffed by the candidate's wife, who called Goldberg's version of events "not correct."
The View conversation also addressed women's issues, where Romney explained that both she and her husband were pro-life -- but that when he was Governor of Massachusetts, he endorsed a pro-choice platform.
"Mitt has always been a pro-life person," Romney said. "He governed ... as pro-choice. But when a decision came across his desk ... to use embryos for experimentation, he could not have on his conscience creating human life for experimentation, and that's when he came out with an editorial saying that he was pro-life."
"I will tell you, I did not want to do this again," Ann Romney also said, speaking about accompanying her husband as he campaigned for president a second time. "[But] I felt as though that there was something my husband could offer this country that was uniquely his -- that he could bring better economic hope and prosperity to women and men and all Americans."
Speaking of the Republican nominee, Barbara Walters also addressed the notable absence of Romney on the show. When Walters brought up the candidate's widely circulated remarks in the "47 percent" fundraising video that the The View' s hosts were "high risk" and "sharp-tongued," Ann joked that her husband didn't really say that.
"No, he said, 'sharp and young,'" Romney said, to laughs.

Josh Romney -- who also appeared on the talk show with his mother -- was asked about his brother Tagg Romney's combative comment that he wanted to "take a swing" at the president during the debate. Josh joked that, "[Tagg] has slugged me a couple times, I assure you that President Obama has nothing to worry about."
