Even though she has no accent, Savannah was born in Melbourne, Australia. Two years later, her family moved to Tucson, Arizona. (Se has said she hopes to return to Australia because she has no memories of living there.)
She has a background in law.
After graduating from University of Arizona with a degree in journalism, Savannah earned her JD from Georgetown University Law Center. She is a member of the bars in both Washington D.C. and the state of Arizona.

Savannah and the BBC presenter met in 2005 while covering the Michael Jackson trial. After Mark divorced his first wife, the two got married. However, the couple separated in 2009.
