Kathie Lee Gifford Mistakenly Asks Martin Short About Deceased Wife

Kathie Lee Gifford had to give a big apology to Martin Short after his visit on the TODAY show Wednesday.

Gifford, 58, mistakenly asked Short, who was promoting his new animated film Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, about his marriage to Nancy Dolman -- not knowing that Dolman passed away over a year and a half ago after battling ovarian cancer.

"You and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business," Gifford said. "How many years now for you guys now?"

"We…married 36 years," Short, 62, said.

"But you're still in love!" Gifford said. "Madly in love," Short replied. "Madly in love."

Gifford continued by asking, "Why?" Short shrugged his shoulders and said, "Cute. I'm cute."

During a commercial break, Gifford was made aware of her mistake and apologized on the show. "Martin just told me as he was leaving, he said 'Kathie you probably didn't know,' but his beautiful, precious wife Nancy did pass away a year and a half ago of ovarian cancer. I feel so badly."
