Jay Leno marked his 20th anniversary as host of “The Tonight Show” on Friday.

“Twenty years ago today, we did our very first show,” said Leno in his opening monologue. “In that time we’ve seen a lot of stars come and go from the program — including me!”

The late-night icon replaced Johnny Carson on May 25, 1992 (after a succession controversy with rival David Letterman), staying with the show until 2009, when Conan O’Brien briefly took the reins.

Leno returned in March 2010.

He mocked his employer in a cold open with guests General Colin Powell and Colonel Greg Gadson.
