Don Draper’s Sno Ball Idea Was F*cking Terrible

Here are the competing ideas, side-by-side, from Sunday's “Mad Men” episode. Compare for yourself.

During Sunday's episode, us ad creatives got a rare full peek at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce's work, this time, print ads for Sno Ball, a Pepsi-flavored frozen slushie beverage.

Above left is the campaign created by copywriter Michael Ginsberg. It's simply a series of characters (including a cop, Hitler, and a pig) getting hit in the face with snowballs. It's actually a not-completely-bad idea.

At right, is Draper's "snowball's chance in Hell" idea, which is just fucking awful; crap borrowed interest, muddled execution, etc. Which was the point—to show that Don had lost his chops being a lazy-ass creative director.

Draper left Ginsberg's idea in the taxi (incredible dick move), and only presented his own, which sold somehow (not at all believable).

I've had good ideas left in the portfolio before by my bosses. Ain't nothing you can do about it, except sulk.
