Chrissy Teigen, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model engaged to John Legend, has been flooded with death threats on Twitter from outraged Chris Brown fans after Teigen criticized Brown’s performance at the Billboard Music Awards.
On Sunday, Teigen tweeted up a storm about the awards show, and when it was Brown’s turn she wrote, “So excited to see Chris Brown! I love loud and surprising background fits of rage I can hear from the audience!”
Then she added, “Why sing when you can dance?”
The allusion to lip-synching did not go over well with Brown’s fans.
Team Breezy bombarded Teigen with messages, including taunts that she should kill herself and the expressed hope she be “raped and murdered.”
Initially, Teigen seemed in good humor about the feud, tweeting, “Let’s go team breezy. I got a lonnng flight.”
But as the volume of ugly threats increased, Teigen grew upset.
“Reallllly makes me sad that 99% of the most disturbing comments come from young girls,” wrote the model. “I’ll end it there but it make[s] me sad.”
Teigen, who re-tweeted a number of nasty messages from Brown’s fans, was especially upset about the number of young women tweeting her and Legend with messages suggesting that Legend should “control” her.
“OK, in all seriousness, and this has been entertaining, I’m so disturbed,” wrote Teigen. “I am not picking on anyone or telling ANYONE to hate the dude… I like some of his music too. YOU can like it… but WHY the insane hate and ‘team’?? Why can’t you just CHILL THE F**K OUT.”
She continued, “I’ve had comments ranging from ‘kill yourself you stupid HO’ to ‘gold digging c*nt’ ‘get a f**king job’, etc. because I don’t like him?… seriously. this isn’t your f**king job. stop being psychotic. be strong women. listen to opinions without spewing pure maliciousness…”
Teigen added, “Don’t throw around the term ho, c*nt, slut. you’re women. WE ARE WOMEN. and don’t ever think a man can f**king control you. You guys are too young for this sh*t. too f**king young. how you can even form these sentences at someone you don’t know makes me so sad.”
