Gallagher is retiring from live performance.

The legendary comedian, whose full name is Leo Anthony Gallagher, made the announcement on an Ohio radio station just days after emerging from a medically induced coma.

He had a heart attack in Dallas on March 14 and was hospitalized until Wednesday.

Gallagher told WDCM that his retirement from the comedy circuit will not preclude potential appearances at private events.

One of the most successful comics of the 1980s, Gallagher is best known for delighting audiences with prop comedy that usually involved smashing things – most notably, watermelons.
