ABC has canceled its cross-dressing comedy “Work It” after two episodes, dismal ratings and controversy.
The sitcom, about two men who pose as women to get hired during the recession, premiered to an avalanche of negative critical attention – but not many viewers.
Advocacy groups including the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) had blasted ABC for “Work It,” claiming that it did damage to the transgender community by enforcing negative stereotypes.
Before ratings plummeted even further for its second (and, ultimately, final) episode, “Work It” was defended by ABC Entertainment chief Paul Lee, who told reporters he “didn’t really get” the outrage over the series.
Repeats of “Last Man Standing,” starring Tim Allen, will air in its place for the time being.
